Membership

Three ways to hold a seat

You do not need to be a member to come up. Membership exists for the people who are here often enough that paying a seat fee each time becomes a small nuisance, and because a room this size works better when a good share of the people in it know each other. All three tiers run month to month and stop with a fortnight's notice.

Lamplighter

$28 / month

For the once-a-fortnight visitor. You like a Tuesday or a Wednesday, you usually come with one other person, and you would rather not think about the seat fee at the door.

  • Seat fees waived on open felt nights from Tuesday to Thursday
  • Your seat held until half past eight on any night you have booked
  • One guest at the member seat rate on every visit
  • The week's programme sent to you before bookings open to the room
  • A teaching hour with a host any time you want a new game explained

Table Holder

$54 / month

For the regular. You are up here twice a week, you have a table you prefer, and you bring people along often enough that the guest allowance matters more than the seat fee does.

  • Seat fees waived on every open felt, dice and board shelf night
  • Two tickets a month to the quiz or to a Lamplight Live set
  • Up to three guests at the member rate on every visit
  • First call on the terrace tables through the warmer months
  • A named rack behind the bar and a tab you settle weekly

Keyholder

$88 / month

For people who treat the rooms as a front parlour and use the back room for their own gatherings. The tier that makes sense if you are here most weeks and host others when you are.

  • No seat fee at any table on any night of the week
  • One back room evening a month for up to ten people, host included
  • Four tickets a month across the quiz and the music nights
  • A standing Sunday afternoon seat with no booking needed
  • Two hours of a host's time to learn a game of your choosing

A membership buys access to the rooms and to seats at tables. It is not a stake, a deposit, a share of anything, or a purchase of counters, and no part of it can be won back, cashed out or paid to you in any form. Counters have no value and cannot leave the building. Members show photo identification at the door like everybody else, every visit. Food and drink are charged separately at the bar unless a written back room package says otherwise, and if you ask us to suspend or end your membership for your own reasons we will do it without a conversation about why.

What it costs

Seat fees and monthly tiers

Three membership tiers, all of them month to month, all of them cancellable with a fortnight's notice. You do not need a membership to come up: guests pay a seat fee or a ticket on the night.
